Homelessness Week 2018 | Homelessness Australia

Today marks the beginning of National Homelessness Week. This years theme is ‘Ending Homelessness Together’ and as such we’ll be attending the National Homelessness Conference at the MCG for the next two days to bring together services, groups, people and ideas together to help forge pathways to end homelessness.

What can we say! Look at all of these beautiful make up donations coming in for the women and girls we’re supporting in remote NT. This is just some of what we have received so far. There are so many beautiful things being donated. We can’t thank you all enough.

Brownie is a brave and loyal companion who looks after his human, Jodie, and protects her as they live on the streets.

Brownie was sick recently and needed urgent vet help. His Mum took him to Lort Smith, where he received amazing care, but vet care is expensive and Jodie was left struggling to pay the bill.

So we decided to do a fundraiser to see if we could help out, and in a matter of hours we had enough to take care of Brownies vet bill so his Mum had one less thing to worry about.

It was so lovely catching up with Jodie today and letting her know the bill was all taken care of and she didn’t have to worry about it any more.

Jodie was thrilled and very relieved when we told her. She said, “I’m so happy to know the bill is gone. I was worried about how I’d ever afford to pay it. I don’t have any money. What if he needed more care? I didn’t know if I could even take him back.”

We let Jodie know that if Brownie does need more care we’d ask our supporters to pitch in and see what we could do. He needs to be healthy and strong to protect his Mum.

A huge thank you to everyone who donated to help make this possible. Brownie is getting stronger and better every day. He’ll be back to his old self soon.

Donate via Credit Card or Paypal – The Period Project

Every year since we started we've grown bigger and helped more people in need. We're extremely proud of that. But, because of this growth, every year we need even more people to help us. We simply can't operate on thin air.

We know most people don't want their donation going on 'overheads' but without overheads, we literally don't have a charity. We have to get the packs made, and delivered and connect with organisations to reach the people we support. And we simply can't do that with no money.

Fact is, to survive we need your financial donations as much as your sanitary ones. We have the exact same overheads as a business (rent, insurance, petrol, light bill, phone bill, public liability etc), but we're a charity, and we don't have anything to sell to pay those bills. Without your financial support, we'll sink. It's as simple as that.

It's almost tax time and because we're a registered charity if you donate $2 or more you can get a tax receipt to reduce your taxable income and help us keep going at the same time.

Our recent fundraiser with Humans In Melbourne to raise money to buy sleeping bags for people sleeping rough went far beyond our wildest dreams! So we decided to share the love with our friends in Hobart, delivering hundreds of warm and useful items to the Richmond FoundationTasmania.

Hello everyone, as many of you may remember, a few week ago I ran a campaign to raise money for sleeping bags.
We’ve raised over $52,000!
Today we surprised a fantastic charity down in Hobart by giving them 20 sleeping bags and then went out and stocked them up for winter with so much gear!
If those of you that watch this could leave me some feedback, that would be great. I’d really love to start doing more video on Humans In Melbourne but this is my first go at editing properly so I’m a hit nervous!
