We’re so excited to be able to announce that the next Melbourne Period Project Clothes Swap will be on Saturday November 17.

Do you want some new for you clothes that have zero environmental impact without spending a cent? Well, this even is for you!

The last clothes swap by Natalie B and crew was a roaring success and we’re thrilled this is happening again. We’ll be there to chat about what we do and to let people know more about our upcoming Op Shop that will be purpose made to support people trying to escape family violence.

We are absolutely thrilled to have our hard work recognised yet again. Recognition by such an esteemed Group as the Westpac Foundation makes us all the more proud!

This $10,000 grant will go directly to assisting more people experiencing family violence to forge a solid and achievable pathway into employment and sustained financial stability.

If you’re in Brisbane this weekend go and catch up with Our Brisbane Period Project brothers and sisters at Pride March. We are proud as always to support our LGBTIQA+ friends.

We are huge supporters of our transgender and non binary friends out there. With the Pride March coming up this Saturday we will be holding a stall at Pride Fair Day, spreading the word about what we do.
We wanted everyone to know that, Brisbane Youth Service is offering a safe space this Saturday for anyone in need of a safe space to get ready for the Pride March they are offering an inclusive group for the March. As a parent of a child with autism this was such a bittersweet moment.

Late yesterday afternoon we received a request from a Launch Housing crisis worker asking if we could help get a bike for a little girl who has autism. She had to leave her bike behind when the family needed to leave suddenly and move into crisis accommodation.

Leaving home in a hurry can be very traumatic for children. Leaving home in a hurry when you have autism and can’t take your favourite things with you can be absolutely devastating and very confusing.

I know how heartbroken and confused my own son would be if this happened to him. So we went straight out and bought a brand new Shopkins bike to help make things a little better, and we delivered it this morning.

We know we can’t fix everything and we can’t help everyone but we do what we can. And right now there’s one little girl who is a little less confused and a little more comforted because she has a new bike. ... See more

Our next Plate Up Project at Launch Housing is up and running thanks to our Sunsuper grant, and we were thrilled to have Chef Damian join us again for our knife skills and chopping session, Chef also taught us how to cook the perfect steak and an incredible mash, mushroom sauce and caramelised onion.

We all sat together as a family and ate lunch afterwards which is possibly one of the best parts of the Plate Up course.

Our participants are incredible people. They’re so strong, resilient and determined. We have the best fun getting to know each other and working together through the course.

We need to talk about sex. Safe sex.

Women experiencing homelessness do often have sex, just like the rest of the population. However the sad fact is, that sex is often to survive, make money, or, like the case of a lot of younger girls, to get a TInder date so they have somewhere to sleep that night and don't have to worry about sleeping outside in the cold.

It's absolutely horiffic but it happens every day.

And it can often be tricky to get access to condoms. We've recently had an agency who supports women experiencing homelessness contact us and ask if we can help out with a supply of condoms.

We said we'd love to!

This is where you come in. We'd love for you to throw a box of condoms into your grocery shopping this week and donate them to us to pass on. If you're not comfortable doing that we'd love you to jump online to any store and order a box to have sent directly to our warehouse. Address below this post.

We want women to be safe and we need to come together in many ways to make that happen. A steady supply of condoms can really help. Please consider donating by sending some our way!

Come see Queer Lady Magician at Melbourne Fringe!

Can an overly honest person be a good magician? If you failed at something once should you never try again? And what's with all these straight white men in Orientalist drag? Creatrix Tiara, the Queer Lady Magician, revisits a childhood love for stage magic with a strong sense of social justice - and a severe case of impostor syndrome. Produced as part of Women's Circus Still I Rise Fringe Mentorship 2018, Queer Lady Magician will be debut at Gasworks Arts Park from the 12th to 15th September.

Queer Lady Magician's Fringe season will also be a drop-off point for Melbourne Period Project, so please bring along super pads, individually wrapped liners, and feminine or baby wipes so they can be donated to MPP.

Meet Roz. Roz is the inspirational volunteer manager of our Brisbane Period Project chapter. BPP has just tuned 3 years old and under Roz’s incredible care it is always super busy getting Period Packs out to people experiencing homelessness in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast.

One woman a week is killed at the hands of her partner, and the most dangerous time for a woman in a domestic abuse relationship is the day she tries to leave. This is when she is most at risk of serious harm or even death.

This needs to stop. With your vote, we plan on making that happen.

Accessing information about how to safely leave an abusive relationship is hard, especially when you don't know where to begin. We recognise how difficult and stressful this stage is, so we plan on helping to make it easier.

Our Op Shop Plus is a space where women can discretely come to browse, shop and also access vital information to help them plan to leave and to survive once they're out. We will have information on all stages including housing options, legal aid, Centrelink, Child Support, employment, counselling, medical and self-care. Experts from each field will visit on a rostered basis, so women have someone to talk to and ask questions in person.

Given it's an actual op shop, women needing support can blend in with everyone else simply shopping, and gain support discretely and without disclosing who they are. If needed, a friend can visit and gather information to pass on to the person needing to leave.

Currently, there are many organisations that help after someone has left, but very few available to assist before the leaving happens. This needs to change, but we need your help to do it.
